PHOT 050 PHOTOGRAPHY - SPECIAL PROJECTS
Designed to allow the student to specialize in one particular phase of photography under the close supervision of the instructor. Students are required to meet periodic deadlines and to do classroom assignments that are structured to allow creativity. This should be the final class that the student takes before leaving the photography program.

PHOT 055 PHOTOGRAPHY - WORK EXPERIENCE - VOCATIONAL
The course requires a minimum of five hours per week of employment in a photography related occupation. Refer to class schedule for an explanation of unit credit.

PHOT 101 INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY
This course provides students with an introduction to visual concepts, basic image capture and camera functions with film and digital cameras. Software basics for photographic imaging and digital printing along with traditional black and white film development and photographic printing will be taught.

PHOT 103 INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY
This course reinforces and enhances the basic concepts and skills acquired in the Introduction to Photography class. Course emphasis is on the refinement of basic technical skills including both silver-based and digital photography and the development of a personal direction in photography for the student. The course also includes an introduction to both 2 1/4 and 4x5 format cameras.

PHOT 104 WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY: A CONTEMPORARY APPROACH
This course acquaints the student with the fundamental concept, equipment, demands and photographic techniques used by contemporary wedding photographers. The course is composed of lectures and outside assignments which prepare the student for basic applications in the field of wedding photography.

PHOT 105 PHOTO-GRAPHICS
A basic class in darkroom techniques utilizing graphic arts film and developers. Darkroom manipulations during the photo process are used to give the student a working knowledge of the possibilities offered by unique photo control methods.

PHOT 107 BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY
A basic non-darkroom photography course to teach the student the operation and use of the most commonly available 35mm SLR and similar cameras. The course consists of lecture, slide presentations, studio and darkroom demonstrations and field trips.

PHOT 108 INTERMEDIATE COLOR SLIDE PHOTOGRAPHY
A continuation of PHOT 107 designed to expand the student's knowledge and techniques of basic color slide photography. The student will concentrate on specific skills in photograph practice such as portraiture and flash photography.

PHOT 109 PORTRAIT PHOTOGRPHY
This course gives the student a working knowledge of portrait styles and techniques. The student practices techniques for working with people in a studio situation. The student works with both natural and artificial lighting and learns the possibilities and limitations of both. Camera formats range from 35mm to 4x5.

PHOT 200 CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course gives the student a through understanding of how issues and concepts are related to the processes used to communicate them. The student becomes familiar with major artists whose work employs nontraditional processes. The thrust of the course work revolves around the different ways that a variety of processes are used to communicate ideas.

PHOT 201 ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY
This course deals with the production of photographs for advertising and editorial use. Emphasis is placed on advanced studio techniques, as well as the conceptual validity of photographs.

PHOT 202 CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY
This course gives advanced students a through understanding of the concepts and concerns of contemporary photography. The student is familiarized with the work of major artists working after 1950. The major thrust of the course is focused on understanding why photographs are created and what they communicate. Assignments are in the process(es) of the student's choice.

PHOT 203 TECHNICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course familiarizes the student with the differeing technical alternatives in photography. Special emphasis is placed on complete command of lighting, processing, and printing, as needed in professional photography.

PHOT 204 HISTORY AND AESTHETICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
This is a lecture/lab course on the history of photography. Students gain a practical knowledge of the development of photography through a combination of lecture and hands-on experiences. In the lab, students use early photographic techniques and processes. The course emphasizes the invention and development of photography from its inception in the early 1800's through the early 1950's.

PHOT 207 COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY
This course provides the advanced student a solid background in the theory and practice of color photography. Students explore the possibilities and limitations of traditional and digital color processes, including color negative and color positive printing methods. Emphasis is on both technical and aesthetic expression of color, form initial image capture to finished print, along with color symbolism and its use as a compositional tool.

PHOT 208 ADVANCED COLOR
This is an advanced color photography course designed to increase the student's understanding and ability to use advanced applications of traditional and digital color photography. Professional approaches, specialty techniques and refinement of the use of color is emphasized in both shooting and in the darkroom. Transparency shooting, printing, lighting, contrast control and related digital applications are the primary focus of the course.

PHOT 209 CAREERS IN PHOTOGRAPHY
This course helps students identify and achieve professional goals and objectives. The course provides an understanding of the professional preparation necessary to get established in a particular career area. Topics include the technical skills, equipment, portfolio development, promotional needs and specialized business considerations necessary for getting a job or establishing a photographic business.

PHOT 211 ZONE SYSTEM PHOTOGRAPHY
This course emphasizes the zone system of exposure control made famous by Ansel Adams. This method of exposure is used to control final print quality under normal and adverse applications. Natural landscape photography is emphasized but not at the exclusion of all other forms of photography. Both black and white and color are used.

PHOT 215 DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course integrates electronic imaging into the advanced photography student's visual repertoire. Combining creative studio/camera practices with computer technology, the course concentrates on the production and processing of images with current electronic photographic tools and the application of electronic media to all areas of commercial photography. Included are techniques for lighting background control, selection and manipulation, digitization, image capture and processing.

PHOT 216 ADVANCED DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course provides the student with advanced knowledge of techniques and skills in the application of electronic and digital/computer technologies to all areas of commercial photography. The integration of technical skills and aesthetic expression are emphasized along with advanced studio techniques with digital camera equipment. Projects require exploration and experimentation. Students develop skills necessary to create their own unique body of work using digital photographic technologies.

PHOT 217 3D PHOTO IMAGING
A diverse assortment of 3D software is utilized to instruct students in how forms are visually perceived and modified based on the way light describes them. Students study lighting, form and space in virtual environments of their own creation. The relationship between 2D and 3D imaging applications is discussed as well as the integration of the two for a variety of commercial photography and multimedia applications. These applications include studio background creation, special visual effects, game production, photo illustration and digital composites.

PHOT 219 PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY
This curse acquaints the student with a current view if the field of photojournalism. The majority of work is done in a 35mm. Heavy emphasis is placed on communication through photography.

PHOT 220 ALTERNATIVE PHOTO PROCESSES
This class investigates the artistic aspects and technical procedures used in 19th Century photographic printing of hand-coated papers. Class projects include aspects of graphic arts photography, films and developers. Students work with cyanotypes, kallitypes and kwik print.

PHOT 221 ALTERNATIVE PHOTO PROCESSES II
This class continues to investigate the artistic aspects and technical procedures used in 19th Century photographic printing of hand-coated papers. Students work with gum bichromate, salted paper and color key materials.

PHOT 222 ALTERNATIVE PHOTO PROCESSES III
This class continues to investigate the artistic aspects and technical procedures used in 19th Century photographic printing of hand-coated papers. Students work with albumen, collodion and palladium/platinum processes.

PHOT 223 ALTERNATIVE PHOTO PROCESSES IV
This class continues to investigate the artistic aspects and technical procedures used in 19th Century photographic printing of hand-coated papers. Students work with dye transfer, carbon printing and multi-process projects.

PHOT 298 PHOTOGRAPHY SEMINAR
This seminar is for students who wish to increase their knowledge of photography. Various topics are offered. Consult the class schedule to verify unit credit for a particular semester.
